Torchbearers

Puthupady St. Paul’s Ashram and Balabhavan started in Nov. 1958. First St. Paul’s Balabhavan started functioning. The church officially recognized St. Paul’s Missionary Brotherhood-Society of Missionaries of Christ SMC-on 15 March 1980 and H. H. Baselios Marthoma Mathew I Catholicose made the declaration. Penance in the hermitage includes poverty, celibacy, obedience, missionary dedication and ecumenical outlook. As members of this abode we have H. G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios Metropolitan (now Visitor Bishop), 3 Rambans, 14 Priests, 4 Deacons and 1 Brother. The members serve in various missionary institutions in different parts of India without accepting any neward. One of the founders of the hermitage revered Very. Rev. P. M. Thomas

Ramban was called to God’s Presence on 12 April 2005. The ground floor of the evening home to accommodate the aged people was completed and started functioning to commemorate the late Ramban and Sr. Susanna, the first Superior of St. Paul’s Convent, Puthupady. The Consecration of the building took place in Dec. 2007.
